Something about me...

Thank you for visiting my site. My name is Monika Lightstone. My passion for photography began 20 years ago while I was working as a film editor. When I picked up a camera, I realized that like the movie screen, I could view life the same way, as a story unfolding. Three years ago I began to roll video on my DSLR camera while shooting live music.. I became mesmerized with the flow between the artists. The rhythms and harmonies carried me away to the upper spheres as my lens followed a paint of beats. At that time I walked into what was then Room Five here in Los Angeles. This is where I forged relationships with Casey Abrams, Haley Reinhart, Joel Eckles, Chris Pierce, Trevor Menear, Joe Greene , Dylan Cooper, Yonatan Elkayam, Jesse Thomas, Jacob Lutrell and many more artists. If I were to sit at a show without my camera it would be hard. I have an inner rhythm that compels me to create. Shooting is a force of nature pulling me into magic. Every time I open my camera I aim for the impossible...capturing in a two dimensions format, the intangible. Music is the vapor on the artist face, music is wind, music is spirit. We can't physically hold onto it, yet it moves and stirs us. Music is the closest thing to the soul I can think of. I hope you might also feel the passion and intensity of the artists i experienced when looking at my work.
